The Abraham L Kellogg Society

Named in honor of Judge Abraham L. Kellogg, the Society was established to recognize individuals who have indicated in writing that they have provided for or plan to provide for Hartwick College through bequests, trusts, or other life-income gifts.

Judge Kellogg was a generous Oneonta man who served as a charter member of the Board of Trustees, which he chaired from 1929 to 1944. Fifty-eight years after he presided over the dedication of Hartwick College's first building on Oyaron Hill, his estate gift of $11 million became the largest gift the College had ever received.

Members of the Kellogg Society are forward thinkers like Judge Kellogg, committed to positive action in the fields of philanthropy and education. Kellogg Society members understand the critical need to demonstrate a commitment to strengthening the financial future of Hartwick College. They are dedicated to ensuring the continued vitality and growth of the College from one generation to the next.

William K. (Bill) Davis '49, Chair of the Abraham L. Kellogg Society, carries on Judge Kellogg's legacy. A prominent and highly respected figure in the community, Bill's commitment to Hartwick's mission spans five decades. He was elected to the Board of Trustees in 1985, is past president and director of the Citizens Board and was honored by the College's Alumni Association in 1995 as the recipient of its Meritorious Service Award. Bill Davis understands the value of an opportunity. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration at Hartwick, "courtesy" of the GI Bill and went on to establish Country Club Chevrolet and Otsego Automotive Inc., in Oneonta. Bill is a firm believer in the liberal arts and sciences tradition and has dedicated himself to ensuring that future generations will also have an opportunity to achieve their full potential. He has named Hartwick College as beneficiary in his will and in a life insurance policy and has also made a generous contribution of IRA assets to the College. Bill's dedication to Hartwick's mission goes beyond his own financial commitment. He is fully engaged in telling others about the power of planned gifts and the vitally important role they play in the future of Hartwick College.
